The Client

Context of the role:

Reporting to the Support Manager, the Engineer will be responsible to managing and maintaining Contour’s cloud infrastructure. The role is part management and part technical to schedule and execute the onboarding and upgrading of our client’s solutions on our Cloud infrastructure via standardised scripts and processes. Working directly with our clients and within the limitations of our technology and operating capacity, this will require mature problem solving skills and solid technical background

Responsibilities - Environment Management

  • Schedule the onboarding of clients and their upgrades and deal with ad-hoc customer requests submitted via our support portal

  • Maintain a work plan and up to date status of all requests, environment status, issues and risks

  • Support the execution of tests and other activities on testing environments, including liaising with customers and associated project management and planning

  • Work with the wider support team to resolve issues and escalate issues to L3 where necessary

Responsibilities - Cloud & DevOps

  • Work in partnerships with the DevOps team to execute infrastructure provisioning, application deployments & upgrades, as well as maintenance tasks

  • Provide feedback to L3 DevOps team to increase operational efficiency in tooling / process / infra design

  • Flexible working hours as we build out the team to service our global client base

  • A strong work ethic and ability to navigate and thrive in a fast-changing environment

Job requirements


  • 2+ years in defining cloud architectures in Azure

  • Experience with acting in a support role

  • Proven working experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting UNIX /Linux based environments, preferably for a financial services institution

  • Solid experience in the administration, performance tuning/monitoring of Java application stacks

  • Solid experience with automation software (Ansible and Terraform)

  • Solid experience with containerisation and orchestration (Docker & Kubernetes)

  • Solid scripting skills (shell, Python)

  • Experience with monitoring systems (DataDog, Graphite/Grafana)

  • Experience with central logging systems (ELK, Loki/Grafana)

  • Experience of deploying, using and managing the Atlassian tool set (Jira, Service Desk etc).

  • Experience with relational databases, SQL, as well as database backup and restore procedures

  • Solid networking knowledge - particularly cloud network configuration and management.

  • Solid knowledge of database configuration and management - particularly cloud bases PaaS offerings.

  • Solid knowledge of web & application servers (NGINX, Tomcat, etc)

  • Solid understanding and experience of security engineering

  • Deep and broad understanding of computer science and engineering principles, most likely obtained through significant professional experience

  • Experience with one or more blockchain technologies (ideally Corda) desirable but not essential
